Are we loving our beaches to death?

Turns out we hurt the places we love.

Many of us relish a day (or a week) at the beach. Warm sand between your toes, the roar of the waves, the call of a seagull and maybe a chilled drink in your hand. What better way to get away, to rejuvenate, to reconnect. We love it! We love it so much that sixty percent of the U.S. population lives within 50 miles of a coastline. crowded beach Just a short jaunt for us (and our waste) to reach paradise. This may surprise you, but eighty percent of all pollution in the seas and ocean comes from land-based activities. Human land-based activities. And more challenging still, ninety percent of the ocean’s biodiversity lives along coastlines. Put another way, ninety percent of all marine life rely on two percent of the earth’s water. The same 2 percent we flock to every chance we get.
